How often should I have my gutters cleaned? Well, that’s a good question. The answer depends on your home’s surroundings. I live in a heavily wooded lot, and I take time out from servicing my customers to clean my own gutters 4 times a year. The debris from the over hanging trees accumulates on my roof and in my gutters in a matter of months. Therefore, to protect my home, I clean them out every 3 months. 4 times a year is my recommendation for homes with heavy tree coverage.

Most homes, however, do not require this many cleanings. In most cases, where trees are separated from your home by a little distance, it takes longer for debris to accumulate in your gutters since the debris relies on a good wind to reach your roof. You’d be suprised how much still makes it’s way across the distance and into your gutters, I see it all the time. So in these more common cases, a good thorough cleaning 1 to 2 times a year is sufficient. It’s usually a good idea to perform these cleanings in the spring during/after everything has bloomed, and again in the fall.
